Watercolors

Learn techniques for color-mixing as well as how to create texture while adding shadows and highlights to give your work an elegant dimension.

Tea Candle Painting

Hand-paint a candle with resident artist, Theresa, using melted tea candle wax.

Make a Mug

Join our artist in the Maker’s Space as she guides you in making your own mug. By using the process of hand building, which is done at the table, learn how to attach handles, create decoration and texture, and use different techniques to build a mug or vessel. If you’re new to clay, this is the class for you.

Open Studio

No instruction will be provided but our artist will offer tips and advice if needed. Guests of all ages are welcomed. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

While a guest at our resort, we invite you to connect with nature on two trails: the Shoreline Trail and the Forest Trail. Our resort ecologist and horticulturist have been instrumental in helping create and maintain these trails, as the Tides Inn embarks on a multi­phase sustainability project to conserve the waterways and land. Please see our concierge for more information or a map of our trails.

Guided Trail Hike

Enjoy a 1-hour guided trail hike at our Woodland Trail, with the Tides Inn Resident Ecologist, Will Smiley. Please meet in the front lobby and dress appropriately for the weather.

Beekeepers tending to a hive

Beehive Experience

Explore a day in the life of an apiarist with our beekeeping experience. After a short walk through the Forest Trail to the Bee Meadow, you will meet with our resident beekeeper for a brief introduction on the most vital pollinators, the European honeybee. Opening your eyes to how it feels to be inside an apiary, the beekeeper teaches you about the extraordinary life of the honeybee. This workshop will conclude with a honey tasting of local, raw honey. *This experience is offered seasonally.

Bird Exploration

Our on-site expert will lead you through our Forest Trail, Bee Meadow and Shoreline Trail with all the tools you need to learn about our local fowl. This experience is outdoors and includes walking for a significant portion of the tour. Guests should be prepared with proper footwear and clothing suitable for the weather.

Chesapeake Gold

Guided by the Tides Inn ecologist, learn why Eastern oysters are the keystone species of the Chesapeake Bay. They are ecologically essential for the health of the bay, purifying the water for their food. An adult oyster can filter 50 gallons of water a day. *This experience is offered seasonally.

Garden Tour

Take a leisurely bicycle ride and enjoy a tour of the pollinator gardens, vegetable garden and Bee Meadow with our horticulturist, Matt Little. *This experience is offered seasonally.

Beautiful Swimmers

The Blue Crab, also known as Callinectes Sapidus, which translates to “beautiful swimmer,” is an icon of the Chesapeake Bay. First, aboard our ecologist’s boat, you will learn how to set a crab pot. Upon returning to the dock, you'll inspect crustaceans and other wildlife in miniature aquariums. This experience concludes with a sampling of freshly cooked Chesapeake Blue Crab accompanied by beer, wine and nonalcoholic beverages. *This experience is offered seasonally.

Master Class & Tasting: Champagne

Indulge in an unforgettable evening with our Sommelier, Megan, as she guides you through a Champagne Master Class and Tasting, delving into the nuances of various champagnes, from their notes and origins to perfect pairings and beyond.

Wine 101

Led by our wine expert you will learn about the uniqueness and popularity of wine varietals as you swirl and sip your way to demystifying the terminology and vinification of grapes.

Tequila Tastings & Guacamole

Embark on the rich heritage of tequila and mezcal, featuring a detailed exploration of their histories, varieties and unique tasting notes. These tastings will be complemented with salsa and guacamole.

Oyster Shucking

Learn a pastime of the Chesapeake Bay region and join one of our experienced chefs to learn how to clean and shuck freshly caught oysters. Enjoy an assortment of prepared oyster recipes.

Morning Stretch

Start your morning in nature and experience ultimate relaxation. Meet at the fitness center. Complimentary with the resort fee.

Total Body Sculpt

This class will increase flexibility, and muscular stamina, and get the blood flowing without the use of heavy weights or equipment. This is an ideal class for anyone healing from muscular injuries, in need of flexibility training, or just looking for a good calorie burn. This class will be held in the fitness center studio space.

Stand-up Paddleboard Yoga

During our new Paddleboard Yoga class, perfect your poses while you strengthen your core on the water. Open to all-levels of experience, this class will offer you the opportunity to flow, breathe, and be in nature.

Embrace your morning with a relaxing guided meditation session.

Morning Yoga

Wake up wonderfully with Morning Yoga where you may set intentions for the rest of your day. This class includes 30 minute of postures that will warm, strengthen and align your body.

Mat Pilates

Start your morning off right with a introduction to a Pilates mat class. Here we will focus on balance and core strength that help improve day to day activities.

Yomassage

Our signature class is a fusion of restorative positions enhanced with therapeutic touch by a licensed massage therapist. Guests relax in these positions on a mat for up to 10 minutes while the therapist performs therapeutic massage techniques to deepen the practice. *Time of session depends on size of class.

Yoga Classes

Our yoga classes are tailored to your needs and abilities to deepen your yoga experience. We will incorporate the styles of Hatha, Vinyasa and Ashtanga yoga to help you connect to your body, mind and soul.

Private Reiki Healing

Led by Emily and Ashlay Chawla of Rishi Yoga in our Tides Inn Spa, reiki is an energy healing treatment that works holistically on the body, mind and spirit. Our reiki masters enhance the healing process and help rid your body and mind of pain and disease. Personal Training

With a capacity of only two guests, Cardio & Strength is a personalized, fast-paced workout that combines the benefits of cardiovascular and strength training. These two elements will help your body build muscle, endurance, and metabolic strength. The workout will be bouts of intermittent cardio in conjunction with weightlifting and body weight movements. We will begin and end with a cool down segment as well. Training is personalized to you and customized to fit your needs.

With two decades of sailing experience, Captain Clay Dingledine provides sailing lessons and excursions aboard his boat, Galene.

Duffy Boats

Enjoy the use of electric Duffy boats to cruise Carter’s Creek. Self-guided tours are 90 minutes and the boats hold up to eight passengers. Complete your tour of Carter’s Creek with a gourmet picnic basket from our culinary team, available upon request. Or, opt to have one of our experienced captains guide you around our waterways. We will have 10-15 minutes of paddling to and from our destination where you will get to move and float through a core focused flow yoga class. Completed in 1735, this Virginia historical landmark is the best preserved of Colonial Virginia’s Anglican parish churches. The Christ Church features history of the church and Robert “King” Carter. A combination of resistance band and bodyweight strength training, this class will increase flexibility, muscular stamina and get blood flowing without the use of heavy weights or equipment. This is an ideal class for anyone healing from muscular injuries, in need of flexibility training, or just looking for a good calorie burn. $25 per person

Private Training: Cardio & Strength*

Offered Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 11:15 am, 60 minutes

With a capacity of only two guests, Cardio & Strength is a personalized, fast-paced workout that combines the benefits of cardiovascular and strength training. These two elements will help your body build muscle, endurance, and metabolic strength. The workout will be bouts of intermittent cardio in conjunction with weightlifting and body weight movements. We will begin and end with a cool down segment as well. $100 per person. Please book 24 hours in advance

Unwind in our serene setting at the Spa, featuring treatments tailored especially for you. Customize a deep tissue massage or a body treatment to fit your needs and leave feeling restored and ready to explore our Northern Neck region. Our guests’ favorite body treatments are the Be Well Scrub, a one-hour treatment with soothing lemon verbena or rosemary citron, and the indulgent 90-minute Rappahannock Renewal, which includes a detoxifying body scrub, wrap, scalp treatment and a honey heel glaze. Taste By The Bay

In its tenth year, Taste by the Bay is the event of the year on the Northern Neck. You may sample wines from Virginia wineries, food from local restaurants and craft beers from Virginia breweries while perusing pop-up shops featuring local artists.

Although tickets to the event sold out almost immediately, we have reserved tickets for our guests to purchase. When you stay with us during that weekend, you will receive your tickets upon check-in. We invite you to join us along the shores of Carter's Creek to enjoy local food and drinks, live music, and more.

Oyster Beach Party

Irvington Turkey Trot

The 23nd Annual Irvington Turkey Trot is a scenic run, jog or walk through Historic Irvington, a “must-do” family event for the Thanksgiving holiday. This annual fundraising event is organized by the dedicated volunteers of the Irvington Village Improvement Association.

Santa's Village – Kilmarnock Town Center Park

Saturday, December 2 from 10am-8pm Sunday, December 3 from 9am-5pm

Children will travel to seven different parts of the North Pole and learn how toys are made for the big day. After touring the North Pole, children may visit with Santa. Afterward, enjoy hot cocoa and cookies, as each child may write a letter to Santa and place in a special mailbox. Children under 10 are $12 anyone over 10 is $18. Kilmarnock Lighted Christmas Parade

Join the entire community as over 100 lighted floats proceed along Main Street in Kilmarnock. The oldest continually running lighted parade in Virginia, this year’s parade theme is “Peace on Earth." The parade features floats, marching bands and community groups of all kinds.
