With the holidays officially behind us, we've entered what we affectionately call the "secret season" in the Northern Neck region. While it's not widely known, winter is a wonderful time of year that lends itself to a plethora of activities. The crisp, yet pleasant daytime temperatures are ideal for outdoor adventures, and with an abundance of indoor experiences at your fingertips, you might just find yourself wishing you could linger a little longer at the Tides Inn.
As an essential estuary, the Chesapeake Bay region welcomes a number of “part-time residents” for the winter season. So naturally, watching wildlife – both in the water and on land – is a very popular activity during this time of year. Luckily, while in residence at our resort, you have exclusive access to our ecology experiences led by local experts.
During Bird Exploration, you’ll be guided by our horticulturist, Matt, as you walk our Forest Trail, Shoreline Trail and other resort grounds, looking for birds that brave the winter, such as the Carolina Wren, Tufted Titmouse and the White-breasted Nuthatch.
Perhaps you would prefer to learn more about our environmental efforts on the water, especially in helping revitalize the habitat of a keystone species, the oyster, during our Oyster Experience. Will, our ecologist, serves oysters from different salinities and explains why the taste is different while you enjoy Champagne.
If you desire the best of both worlds, the Tides Inn offers a variety of alfresco culinary activities that perfectly pair the beauty of the outdoors with the warmth of the indoors. From a bubbly breakfast and private picnic to tea at two and a sunset supper, you may enjoy an epicurean experience at almost any hour.
The two dining domes, also known as “Chesapeake Bay Bubbles,” are a partnership with the prominent Champagne house, Moët Chandon. Each bubble is complete with a heater, furniture, branded Moët blankets and pillows. This winter season, we invite you to discover the joy of Bubbles by the Bay.
This February, escape to the Tides Inn with your sweetheart and enjoy special experiences designed to deepen your love. From a couple’s massage to our Love Nest experience, all our offerings are available throughout the entire month, making the Tides Inn the perfect place for a romantic rendezvous.
